Biography

“Resilient”, “passionate”, “inspiring” and “fun” are words often used to characterize respected expert, educator, speaker, author and care partner Teena Cahill, PsyD.

With more than 25 years of experience as a healthcare professional and family caregiver, Dr. Cahill’s insight and expertise stem from evidence-based research in cognitive behavioral therapy and hands-on skills caring for her own children, grandchildren, husband and aging parents.

Dr. Cahill uses this knowledge and experience to empower others to recognize their personal strengths and focus on solutions that will help them reframe their roles as “care partners” rather than caregivers and care recipients. Traditional caregiving roles address only these two individuals. However, by becoming care partners, both people assume some caregiving responsibilities based on their respective abilities. Likewise, with care partnering, both team members are encouraged to support one another while reaching out to the world to both give and receive support. Dr. Cahill believes this healthy approach to life, and to caring for others, decreases isolation, increases self-esteem and sets care partners up for better health. Her motto is, “The wider our webs of connectedness, the higher we bounce.”

An accomplished businesswoman and internationally acclaimed humorist, Dr. Cahill is director of Wisdom and Beyond, LLC—a multi-media company—through which she hosts a cable television program of the same name. Highly sought as a keynote speaker, Dr. Cahill inspires and motivates standing-room-only crowds at corporations, annual national conferences for healthcare professionals, non-profits and community forums.

Dr. Cahill also wrote, “The Cahill Factor: Turning Adversity into Advantage”--a powerful personal story about wisdom, resilience and caregiving which is available at her speaking engagements. She also writes articles for leading national consumer media and professional publications and has a blog about caregiving at www.BeWell.com.

Dr. Cahill’s academic credentials include a doctorate in clinical psychology, a master’s degree in counseling and bachelor’s degree in education. She is a former adjunct professor for undergraduate and graduate studies. Dr. Cahill is a member of the American Psychological Association, and actively involved with community-based volunteer groups dedicated to families, caregivers and history. She serves on the Honorary Board for the Well Spouse Association, is a Community Advisor for the Renaissance Learning Center in West Palm Beach, FL and is a former board member of the YWCA in Princeton, NJ. Dr. Cahill enjoys a rich, joy-filled life with her wild and wonderful extended family in Princeton, NJ and Jupiter, FL.
