Dementia turning to alzheimer's??? does that happen?

My grandma lives with us. I am her 24/7 caretaker. My grandmother has dementia and it seems to be progressing. She is on hospice care because she has failure to thrive. I just wonder if the progression is Alzheimer's and what the difference is. Thanks :)

songbird, I am a caregiver of my mom who had dementia for over 5 years. It did get worse but I my mom had what was called vascular dementia. I went on to the website of the Alzheimer's Association to learn all about the 6 or 7 kinds of dementia. They were very helpful. I also attended seminars sponsored by them and a support group for caregives of dementia patients. Please reach out to that association for they are a wealth of knowledge. cg33
