ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Symptoms

 

Symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease include memory loss, confusion, impaired judgment, personality changes, disorientation, and loss of language skills. Some of the more detailed symptoms that may occur during each stage of Alzheimer's disease are listed below:

Early-Stage Symptoms:

  • Trouble remembering dates, places, and names
  • Difficult with analytical tasks
  • Difficult planning or managing more complicated tasks
  • Decreased interest in social gatherings or performing activities he/she usually enjoys
  • Irritability

Mid-Stage Symptoms:

  • Inability to recall his/her telephone number, or when they were born (or similar memory problems)
  • Confusion about their job, date of week, or where they live
  • Lose interest in any social activity
  • Occasionally forget the name of their spouse or primary caregiver
  • Need help getting dressed properly or choosing appropriate clothing for the weather
  • Inability to sleep throughout the night
  • Inability to perform toileting duties on their own
  • Experience mood swings, behavioral changes, and delusions
  • Tend to wander and become lost

Late-Stage Symptoms:

  • Inability to eat, dress, or bathe on their own
  • Inability to communicate properly or form sentences
  • Inability to walk without assistance
  • Inability to smile, swallow, or perform natural reflex actions

These are just a few select symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease during each of the three stages.
