CHRONIC PAIN

Symptoms

Pain is a normal sensation and body reflex that alerts you to possible injury or danger.

Chronic pain is a persistent, constant pain and may last weeks, months, or even years. An old injury such as a sprained back, serious infection or tennis elbow may linger and send you a constant reminder of your mishap.

Some chronic pain is the result of health conditions such as arthritis, cancer, or depression. Many chronic pain conditions affect older adults.

Common chronic pain symptoms vary from person to person, but often include:

  • Headache
  • Lower-back pain
  • Joint pain
  • Neurogenic pain (damage to nerves or the central nervous system itself)

Speak with your doctor if you or your loved one experiences ongoing pain.
