DEMENTIA

Types

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, but many of the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease may correspond with the symptoms of other types of dementia. Some forms of dementia include:

Dementia with Lewy Bodies

This type of dementia is caused by the degeneration and death of brain cells. The name comes from the presence of abnormal lumps, called Lewy bodies, which develop inside nerve cells.&

Vascular Dementia

This type of dementia refers to any form associated with blood-flow or circulation problems to the brain. Some people develop this form of dementia after a stoke. Anyone can be affected by Vascular dementia but several factors including smoking, mild strokes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol are a few risk factors.

Picks Disease

This disease has similar symptoms to Alzheimers disease and is a rare type of dementia which affects the frontal lobe of the brain.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease

(CJD) is a rare and degenerative brain disorder that typically occurs with people more than 60 years of age.

Huntington's Disease

Huntington's disease is a hereditary brain disorder which slowly diminishes the affected
individual's ability to walk, think, talk and reason.

Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that occurs when certain nerve cells die or become impaired. These cells produce a chemical known as dopamine which enables the body to move smoothly and in a coordinated manner. In Parkinson's disease, dopamine production is damaged, which in turn causes tremors, shaking, body spasm, and other difficulties with coordination and mobility.
