High Blood Pressure

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Symptoms

High blood pressure is called "the silent killer" because it usually has no symptoms. Some people do not know they have high blood pressure until another symptom—such as a stroke or kidney or heart problem--occurs.

The American Heart Association recommends that if your blood pressure is 120-139/89-99, recheck your blood pressure at least once a year. If you have a family history of heart disease, be aware that you’re at an increased risk for high blood pressure.

Blood pressure tests are quick and painless. Ask your doctor, nurse, or health care professional for one today. Sometimes drugstores or nearby pharmacies may offer free blood pressure checks.
