Osteoporosis

Symptoms

Sometimes called the “silent disease,” osteoporosis often involves a slow, gradual decrease in bone density. As a result it’s not always apparent when someone has osteoporosis. The first indication may often be a fall caused by weak bones.

In advanced cases of osteoporosis, signs include:

  • Fractures of the vertebrae, wrists, or hips
  • Low-back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Loss of height
  • Stooped posture/curved back

Since falls are the leading cause of death from injury among people 65 or over, it is crucial to talk to your doctor to see if you or your loved one may have osteoporosis.
