CONTINUING CARE COMMUNITIES

Overview

Continuing care communities, or continuing care residential communities (CCRC), are often called the “luxurious” choice for senior housing. These types of facilities offer services, amenities, and health care for seniors of varying needs.

Many couples choose continuing care communities to enable them to live in the same facility regardless of their health care needs in the future. Perhaps what distinguishes CCRCs from the rest of senior housing options are the “extras” that may come with the monthly rent: pools, manicured gardens, housekeeping services, tennis, golf, and more.

Benefits of Continuing Care Communities

Benefits of continuing care communities include:

  • Adjusted support: Health care assistance and support services as your needs change.
  • Housekeeping services: Housekeeping, personal laundry services, home and garden maintenance.
  • Community services: Golf, tennis, exercise facilities and/or pools, art classes, and other community offerings.
  • Safety services: 24-hour security and staff availability; social, and recreational activities.
  • General services: Ability to keep your own furniture and live in your “own home.”

Be sure to ask each individual facility you are considering which services are included, and whether or not supplemental services may be purchased to complement the specific care and services required.
