Lotsa Helping Hands
Lotsa Helping Hands provides a free-of-charge caregiving coordination web service, allowing family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues - a patient and family's community circles - to more easily assist with the daily meals, rides, shopping, babysitting, and errands that become a burden during times of medical crisis or primary caregiver exhaustion.
Now, when someone asks a patient or family "What can I do to help", their email address can be added to the private community database that was created by one of the community's coordinators (typically a close friend and/or family caregiver) and the new member can sign in and immediately see the various tasks that require volunteer assistance. Whether it's a meal for the next four weeks, or rides to medical appointments, the member can instantly sign-up by clicking on the task. Confirmation emails are automatically sent to the family and coordinators, as well as email reminders one week and one day prior to a commitment. There is no redundancy of effort, no forgotten commitments, and no constant embarrassment for the family in asking for help. www.lotsahelpinghands.com |

Meatless Monday
Meatless Monday is a national public health campaign associated with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and supported by 28 other leading schools of public health. A not-for-profit service organization, Meatless Monday advocates a sensible approach to healthy eating, encouraging Americans to adopt a more "flexitarian" diet that's rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and low in saturated fat. The goal of the campaign – consistent with recommendations by the US Department of Agriculture, US Department of Health and Human Services and American Heart Association – is to help Americans reduce their saturated fat intake by 15%. Going meatless just one day a week can greatly reduce your risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and cancer – four of the leading causes of death for Americans today.
